Professional Programs SAP Requirements

To maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at UMKC as a student in a Medical, Pharmacy, Dental or Law program, you must meet the requirements laid out in the SAP policy.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

The GPA component requires that you maintain a minimum GPA to be considered meeting SAP standards.

  • You must meet the standards determined by your school of study and will be considered failing this component if you are placed on academic probation.

Pace of Completion

The pace of completion requirement measures the pace at which you are progressing toward degree completion. The pace of completion is determined by taking the total number of credit hours successfully earned divided by the total number of credit hours attempted.

  • Professional program pace of completion is monitored by the program of study.

You must meet the standards determined by your school of study and will be considered failing this component if you are placed on academic probation.

Maximum Timeframe

The maximum timeframe component measures the total time it takes you to complete your degree program.

  • Your total credit hours attempted cannot exceed 150% of the published length of your academic program.

For professional students, your maximum time frame is monitored by your program of study. Your financial aid eligibility ceases when you are no longer admitted or are dismissed from your program.

Academic Standing

All students, regardless of their program, must meet the academic standing policy required for their degree or certificate program.

Students who are dismissed from their academic program are considered to be immediately failing SAP and will be placed on financial aid suspension. If you choose to enroll in a different program, you will need to contact us regarding your eligibility.
