Grant Adjustment Policy

Grant Adjustment Policy

Federal Pell Grant, SEOG and UMKC grants are affected by the number of credit hours in which a student is enrolled. Prior to a term, awards are based on anticipated enrollment. Student enrollment is frozen at the end of the day on each term's published Census Date, which can be found on the UMKC Academic Calendar.

This frozen enrollment is used for the purpose of determining a student's actual award eligibility. In keeping with federal regulations, award adjustments are made for students who have changes in enrollment prior to the Census Day. Therefore, students who reduce credit hours during this time period and see a reduction in Federal Pell and/or Federal SEOG eligibility may be required to repay a portion of previously disbursed grant funds.

If you had a Return to Title IV calculation processed prior to the Census Date, and were required to return a portion of your federal aid, your Return to Title IV calculation will remain the same. You will not be required to return any additional loan funds for that semester.

Retroactive Withdrawals and Fee Petitions

If you retroactively withdraw from a UMKC class or classes and receive a 100% refund for all charges related to tuition and fees for the class or classes, your federal, state, and institutional aid may be adjusted or cancelled based on your new enrollment status. You will be billed for any portion of Federal, State, and/or institutional aid you were awarded and that paid to your account that must be returned for that semester. The refunded amount will be applied toward the repayment of Federal, state, and/or institutional aid that you received for the semester. If the amount of the fee refund is less than the amount of Federal, State, and/or institutional aid that paid to your account for the semester, you will be billed for the amount of the Federal, State, and/or institutional aid minus the refunded amount.
