What is Cost of Attendance?
Cost of Attendance is a budget that includes the estimated direct and indirect costs a typical student may incur while attending UMKC.
Additional qualifying expenses, such as unexpected medical, dental and car repairs may also be included at the discretion of the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. See the Special Circumstances Appeal Form for specific information.
Direct costs, including tuition and fees and books and supplies, amounts can vary by your degree program and your residency status.
Indirect costs, including off-campus housing, food, personal expenses, transportation costs, and books and supplies not charged at the UMKC Bookstore, are costs you may incur while attending UMKC. These costs can vary based on your lifestyle choices.

Financial Aid Summary
Estimated Financial Aid Budget
The cost of attendance determines how much financial aid you are eligible to receive. In addition, the following formula is used to determine how much need-based aid you are eligible to receive:
Cost of Attendance | |
- | Expected Family Contribution (EFC)* |
= | Financial Need** |
* The Expected Family Contribution is determined by the information reported on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) ** Financial Need refers to the amount of need-based financial aid you are eligible to receive (more information about need-based aid can be found in the Types of Aid section) |
It is important to note that you cannot receive more financial assistance than your total cost of attendance. Be sure to report any outside grant, loan, scholarship or waiver assistance (such as Vocational Rehabilitation, GI Bill, etc.) that you are receiving to help you pay for school if it is not already listed on your financial aid award package.
Residency Status
Review the Residency Status appeal process to determine if you can be considered a Missouri Resident.
